Manchester United vs Atalanta: Team Preview

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United will face a key Champions League clash this week to host Atalanta in March day three of the Champions League group stage

United lost to Leicester on Saturday and there has been much talk about Solskjaer’s future and the club’s management since then.

They return to European action on Wednesday night needing a morale-boosting performance against Italian side Atalanta.

The Red Devils lost their Group F opener against Young Boys but beat Villarreal last time out thanks to a 95th-minute Cristiano Ronaldo winner.

Atalanta top the group with four points so far after a win over young boys in their last game.

Manchester United team news

United will have Aaron Wan-Bissaka available after UEFA reduced his two-game suspension following a successful appeal by the club.

Fred and Edinson Cavani will also be available after their recent international commitments saw them miss Saturday’s loss at Leicester.

Raphael Varane is out while Anthony Martial is doubtful on international duty.

Marcus Rashford should make his first start of the season having returned from a shoulder injury over the weekend.

Atalanta team news

The Bergamo club won 4-1 at Empoli on Sunday, with Josip Ilicic scoring brase  and Duvan Zapata taking his tally to four in six Serie A matches and becoming the first Colombian to net a century of goals in the division.

Currently unbeaten in their last 11 away games in all competitions, Atalanta look set to be without Germany international Robin Gosens, after he suffered a thigh injury against Young Boys. Hans Hateboer and Berat Djimsiti are also absent, the latter following a foot operation, and Matteo Pessina missed the weekend win and Italy’s recent internationals.

Rafael Toloi did appear at Empoli but was withdrawn at half-time after struggling with a thigh problem.
